Jimmy’s Night Shelter began in 1995, in the basement of our church building and aimed to provide welcoming, safe and warm accommodation throughout the year, to anyone who would otherwise be forced to sleep rough or in a vulnerable environment.
Today, Jimmy’s is a charity in its own right and is an assessment centre for the homeless of Cambridge and provides a 24/7 care to its guests as well as emergency care for many in need during severe weather.
ZBC church members visit the centre to listen and offer words of encouragement. We also work with Jimmy’s to open up our Crypt area of the church as a severe weather emergency provision (SWEP).
On the 28 November 2012 Jimmy’s was honoured to be opened as a 24/7 assessment centre by Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. More information and photographs of the royal visit can be found on Jimmy’s website: www.jimmyscambridge.org.uk
